President Trump said this morning that the negotiations with the EU “are not going anywhere” and said that it is “recommending a direct 50% rate on the European Union, as of June 1, 2025” in a publication on its conservative platform of social networks.
Trump said the European bloc has been “very difficult to deal with.”
“Its powerful commercial barriers, VAT taxes, ridiculous corporate sanctions, non -monetary commercial barriers, monetary manipulations, unfair and unjustified demands against US companies and more, have led to a commercial deficit with the United States of more than $ 250,000,000 a year, a number that is totally unacceptable,” he said in the publication.

The 50% rate that Trump threatens is remarkably higher than the reciprocal tariff rate of 39% that imposed on the so -called “day of release.”
